MediaLaws is pleased to share a Call for Abstracts for the 1st NextGen Legal Scholars Conference (NLSC), organised by the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). The conference will take place in person on Friday, 20 March 2026, at the LIC Learning & Innovation Center ULB-VUB in Brussels.

The conference is held under the theme “Law in a World of Uncertainty: Challenging the Foundations, Reimagining the Future” and aims to provide a forum for predoctoral and early postdoctoral legal scholars to present work-in-progress and exchange ideas in a supportive academic environment. It invites critical reflections on how law responds to contemporary global challenges, including geopolitical instability, democratic backsliding, socioeconomic inequality, technological change, and climate crises.

Abstracts are welcome from all legal disciplines, including (but not limited to) public and constitutional law, EU and international law, economic and environmental law, criminal law, and legal history. Interdisciplinary and innovative approaches are particularly encouraged.

Prospective speakers are invited to submit an abstract of up to 500 words (including the title), together with a short biography of up to 150 words, by 30 January 2026 at 23:59 CET. Acceptance notifications will be sent during the week of 2 February 2026. No draft paper is required at this stage, and no collective publication is planned. Participation in the conference is free of charge, but registration is mandatory for both presenters and attendees.

Further information about the conference and the submission procedure is available on the official conference webpage.
